He likes to spend time with his family traveling, doing outdoor sports, gardening, going to the theatre, and cooking. He has truly enjoyed working for the Coastside and sees his identity firmly linked to its community.

A long-time teacher at Half Moon Bay High School, Deanna Tower stepped into the role of Assistant Principal of Pupil Services in 2018.

Over her years as a teacher, Deanna taught Math, English, and Leadership. She coached softball, volleyball, and basketball for many years. Sports are one of her lifelines, whether playing or watching. As a coach, she loved sharing inspirational quotes with her players and analyzing the mental part of the game. One of her favorite quotes:
“For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.”
                                  ― Rudyard Kipling,
The Jungle Book

Born and raised on the coast, Ms. Tower is a proud alumna of the Cabrillo Unified School District. In addition to her love for education is her love for the Coastside. The black and orange roots run deep! Above all is her love for her family, both at home and at school. "What is so special about Half Moon Bay High School is that we are a family here as well. Our students and staff exude a tremendous amount of school pride and unity! There's nothing like it! GO COUGARS!"

Ms. Shuen was born and raised in Taiwan, R.O.C., and has worked in the education and telecommunications fields with three Master's degrees. Her first Master's was in language teaching, with which she taught K-14 Chinese and English Language Learners and worked with the California Department of Education to revise the World Languages Standards for California Public Schools K-12 (2019). Her second Master's was in Computer Science, with which she worked for AT&T/Lucent Bell Laboratories and received U.S. Patent No. 5103475 for solving a telecommunications real-time and memory issue. Her third Master's was received in August 2022 from UC Berkeley's Principal Leadership Institute, providing a strong foundation to be an equity-focused school leader in supporting students' social and emotional well-being and improving student achievement.

Mrs. Shuen and her husband are blessed with three beautiful girls. She feels, "It's a privilege and honor to serve and support the HMBHS students, parents, and educators."
