Real Life Learning

Welcome to HMBHS’s Real Life Learning program (formerly Community Service)!

We want to help you find lots of different opportunities to get out in the real world and have real life experience!  The more you participate, the more information you will have about yourself so that when it’s time to decide your next path after high school, you’ll have real data points to guide the way:

  • what interests you
  • what you’re good at
  • what you want to learn more about
  • and, just as valuable, you might even learn what you thought you were interested in, but then figured out … not so much!

You’ll also be able to accrue lots of valuable personal and professional experience to talk about in future college/job applications and interviews.

Read more about HMBHS’s 35-hour service requirement for graduation, Real Life Learning’s Service Learning Guidelines and the variety of valuable Benefits of a service learning program!

Real Life Learning posts service opportunities via Schoolloop, email, a live Current Opportunities google doc and the MobileServe app.  We also offer additional Resources for initiating your own service learning opportunity.   In addition, Real Life Learning Program Coordinator Karen Hoffman is eager to meet 1:1 with students to explore student interests and design a service opportunity just for you!  Email Ms. Hoffman at [email protected] to set up an appointment.

Logging and Tracking Service Hours

As of November, 2021 all HMBHS students received a MobileServe account to log service events and track total service hours.  A video tutorial is available as a reminder of how to activate your MobileServe account and how to log hours.

If you are a parent or community member with an opportunity for some HMBHS student Real Life Learning, we would love to hear from you!
