Community Service

As part of Half Moon Bay High School's graduation requirements, students must complete a minimum of 35 hours of community service (or approved equivalent). Students may perform their community service any time from the beginning of their Freshman year throughout their high school career. However, it is recommended that students begin long before their Senior year so that they can include it on their college and scholarship applications.

Why do students have to complete community service in order to graduate?

  • Service learning provides opportunities for students to become active, positive contributors to society.
  • Service learning helps students acquire academic skills and knowledge.
  • Service learning experiences can be beneficial to include in college and scholarship applications.
