Attention Sophomores and Juniors: take a practice standardized test! The fall test date for the PSAT at HMBHS is October 10, 2018.

Did you know students who want to apply to 4 year colleges should take a standardized test called the ACT or SAT?

If you want to take a practice standardized test, sophomores and juniors can sign up for the HMBHS PSAT on Wed Oct 10, 2018. Registration opens Mon Sept 17 at 8:00AM and closes on Wed Sept 26. Spots are first come, first served!!

  • All SAT/ACT: tests must be completed by December for UC, CSU, & most other college admissions.
  • PSAT: for sophomores & juniors is October 11, 2017; 8am -12pm in MU & Library; registration is Sept. 25 - Oct. 3rd
  • SAT II tests no longer required, but are recommended for college admissions.

Critical Issues

  • Still focus on academics! Grades do count in the senior year.

  • Pay attention to the deadlines for all applications (admissions, housing, financial aid, scholarships etc...)

  • If you have not sent your SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject test and/or ACT scores to the colleges you're applying to - send them now!

SAT DETAILS

  • Aptitude exam - measures a student's projected aptitude or ability for learning in higher education
  • Questions go from easy to difficult in most sections
  • Non multiple-choice questions included
  • Math accounts for 50% of score
  • Math covers Algebra I & II and Geometry
  • Writing Section is required
  • Vocabulary emphasized
  • No English grammar
  • No Science section
  • Score Choice allows you to choose scores reported to colleges

ACT DETAILS

  • Achievement exam - measures a student's knowledge and understanding of various high school subjects
  • Easy and difficult questions mixed within sections
  • Entirely multiple choice
  • No penalty for guessing (leave nothing blank!)
  • Math accounts for 25% of score
  • Math covers Algebra I & II, Geometry and Trigonometry
  • Writing Section is optional
  • Vocabulary less important
